FIRST CRACK BY SUMMER ICE

Some weekends do not need to be fully planned.

The best way to walk from Central to Sheung Wan may not be to follow a checklist of places, but to slow down and let the day unfold naturally. Stop for a photo when the light feels right. Step into a shop when something catches your eye. When you get tired, find a place to sit, have a drink, and let yourself ease out of the rush of the week.

What makes this route enjoyable is its changing rhythm. You can begin at Man Mo Temple, where the scent of incense and warm wooden interiors offer a quiet moment to make a wish — for work, for life, or simply for something you have been holding in mind. Then, head to Sing Heung Yuen for a crispy bun and a glass of iced milk tea, and take in a more everyday, down-to-earth side of Central.

As you continue towards Sheung Wan, PMQ offers a different kind of pause.

Home to local designers and creative brands, it brings together jewellery, homeware, handmade leather goods, and small independent labels, each with its own point of view. It is more than a shopping stop; it is a place to slowly notice the creative energy of Hong Kong.

When the afternoon heat starts to build, get a cup of sugarcane juice from Kung Lee and drink it by the street before continuing your walk. These simple pauses are often what make a city walk feel most real. And when you pass the Graham Street mural, take a moment if you want to. People stop there every day for photos, and for a brief second, you become part of that moving city scene too.

If the afternoon calls for something sweet, sit down at FIRST CRACK BY SUMMER ICE for a tiramisu, or share a bowl of shaved ice at Shari Shari with friends. On a hot day, something cold, something sweet, and a little time to linger can be enough to reset your mood.

The charm of Central and Sheung Wan is not about how many places you manage to visit. It is about being able to move at your own pace. By the end of the walk, you may leave with a handmade object, a book, a photo, or simply a comfortable pocket of emptiness. And sometimes, that is more than enough for a weekend.
