SCANNOW LAB「本地新物種」：一間收藏城市日常的期間選物店

SCANNOW LAB「本地新物種」回來了。這次，我們在深水埗黃竹街找了一個角落，將平日喜歡和使用的東西帶到線下，開一間小小的期間選物店。逛選物店有趣的地方，不只是買到一件物件，而是從店主的選擇裡，看見另一種生活方式。

一隻杯、一包咖啡、一件擺在家中的小物，看起來各不相干，背後卻可能有著相近的想法：對材料多一點在意，對製作多一點耐性，也相信日常用品不需要張揚，仍然可以陪伴我們很久。

這也是 SCANNOW LAB 一直想做的事。

相隔近兩年，「本地新物種」再次出現。我們把城市當成一座實驗室，走進不同街區，留意那些安靜經營的品牌與創作者，再將遇見的事物逐一收集、整理和介紹。這次，這份城市圖鑑從網上來到線下，暫時落腳在深水埗黃竹街。

我們稱這些品牌為「本地新物種」，並不是想把它們說得多麼稀有，而是因為每個認真生長的品牌，都有自己的形態。有些從一個人的興趣開始，有些回應生活裡很小的需要；它們未必追趕最快的潮流，也不急著成為誰的替代品。只是按照自己的節奏，把喜歡的事做好，慢慢在城市裡找到位置。

一座城市的樣子，除了由建築和街道組成，也藏在這些細小的選擇裡。我們使用甚麼、願意支持甚麼，以及把甚麼帶回家，都在不知不覺間改變城市的生活質感。

所以，這間期間店與其說是一個完整的企劃，不如說是一次打開門的邀請。歡迎你來走走，看看最近有哪些值得留意的新物種。也可以不急著買甚麼，只是花一點時間摸摸物件、讀讀品牌的故事，和我們聊聊最近喜歡的東西。至於這次臨時出現的小店，之後會不會變成每月一次的固定節目，我們也還不知道。先從這一次見面開始。

SCANNOW LAB’s “New Local Species” is back. This time, we’ve found a small corner on Wong Chuk Street in Sham Shui Po, bringing the things we enjoy and use every day into a physical space for a temporary pop-up store.

The pleasure of visiting a curated store is not simply finding something to buy. Through the owner’s selection, we get a glimpse of another way of living. A cup, a bag of coffee, or a small object for the home may seem unrelated, but they often share the same values: greater care for materials, more patience in the making, and a belief that everyday objects do not need to demand attention to remain with us for a long time.

This is what SCANNOW LAB has always wanted to do.Returning after almost two years, “New Local Species” treats the city as a living laboratory. We explore different neighbourhoods, notice the independent brands and makers working quietly within them, and collect, document and share what we find. This time, our city field guide moves from online to offline, settling temporarily on Wong Chuk Street in Sham Shui Po.

We call these brands “New Local Species” not because we want to make them sound rare, but because every thoughtfully grown brand has its own form and character.Some begin with a personal interest; others respond to a small, everyday need. They may not follow the latest trends or try to become an alternative to something else. They simply work at their own pace, doing what they care about well and gradually finding their place in the city.

A city is shaped by more than its buildings and streets. It can also be found in the small choices we make—what we use, what we choose to support and what we bring home. Together, these choices quietly influence the texture of everyday life.

So rather than presenting this pop-up as a fully formed project, we see it as an open invitation.

Come by and see which new local species have caught our attention lately. There is no need to rush into buying anything. Take your time, pick up an object, read the stories behind the brands, or simply talk to us about something you have been enjoying recently.Will this spontaneous little shop become a monthly event?
