I love you!」
A Message from the Founder
SLOTHING's founder, Justin, first conceived the idea for the brand during a picturesque trip to Bali. After enjoying a delicious plate of roasted pork ribs, he noticed that the restaurant also sold souvenir T-shirts featuring its own brand. At that moment, a light bulb went off in Justin's mind: "That’s the feeling." This sudden inspiration prompted him to bravely embark on his brand journey.
Although the road was unknown, Justin never considered giving up and set a firm goal for himself: to keep going for "10 years" before considering quitting, demonstrating his long-term commitment to the venture.
If he had to choose three words to describe the spirit of SLOTHING, Justin chose "Spontaneous," "Heartfelt," and "Detailed." "Spontaneous" is reflected in the free and unpredictable operations, such as irregular opening hours and non-scheduled new product launches."Heartfelt" represents his passion for "still doing this in Hong Kong, wor.""Detailed" stems from his past experience in five-star hotels, where he insists on providing 100% quality service.
Brand Story
Finding Joy in "The Moment of Purchase": The Pure Satisfaction of Daily Operation
In daily operations, the moment Justin feels most strongly that "this is what I want to do" is when someone buys his products; this simple recognition is the greatest satisfaction. Justin believes that instead of emphasizing terms like "local creation" or "handicraft," he trusts that everyone in Hong Kong is engaging in local creation every day.
The Unique Charm of Hong Kong-Style Tattoos and Dedication to the Design Process
The most popular product among customers is the merchandise developed in collaboration with a Hong Kong traditional tattoo artist, as Hong Kong traditional tattooing is a unique existence in itself. Regarding his commitment to the products, there is a small detail that customers might not notice but he considers essential: the time and effort invested in developing an idea or design must never be compromised.
Buddha-like Calm: Regaining Inspiration through Hotpot and Serendipitous Encounters
When creative inspiration runs dry, Justin's way to de-stress is very "local" and diverse: he gathers friends for hotpot, chit-chat, drinks, or goes to the gym. Among many customers, he was deeply impressed by a middle-aged Japanese man accompanied by five women. The man stayed in the shop for only one minute, found nothing suitable, and politely left. Justin described himself as a "Buddha" in that moment, enjoying the brief and interesting interaction. If the brand were a song, it would be "Chung Chung Chung" (衝衝衝) by AT17, filled with forward momentum.
Embracing the Present: Letting Everyone Feel "Love"
Looking back, if he could say one thing to his ten-year-younger self, Justin would affirm: "Hello! I love you!" SLOTHING's philosophy is about living in the present, and Justin hopes that what everyone who walks into SLOTHING feels most is that ardent "love." He hopes this love can bring warmth and strength to everyone in the present moment.
