A Message from the founder
In the late 1980s, Wing, the founder of Jik Sap, embarked on his collecting journey. Initially, it was merely a personal interest, but over time, it evolved into a way of life. Wing was endlessly curious about various old objects, not just the items themselves, but also the exploration of characteristics, aesthetics, and craftsmanship from different eras. Approximately eight years ago, Sylvia, a designer by profession, joined the team. She hoped to inspire more people to appreciate old items, not solely for nostalgia, but more importantly, for the underlying concept of sustainability they embody.
If three words were to describe the brand Jik Sap, they would undoubtedly be "Memory," "Rebirth/New," and "Sustainability." These words progress step by step, from recalling the past, to giving old objects new life, and ultimately achieving the concept of sustainability, forming Jik Sap's unique brand story.
The path of entrepreneurship is never smooth, and high rents often disheartened Sylvia. However, facing challenges, she chose to persevere. This unwavering resilience, born out of necessity, has sustained Jik Sap through countless difficulties.
Brand Story
Daily Inspirations: Encounters with Kindred Spirits
In the daily operations, every day brings moments that make Sylvia feel, "this is what I want to do." This feeling is particularly profound when they encounter individuals who truly understand the value of old objects and form a connection with them—the emotion is indescribable.
The Echo of the City's Soul: The Value of Local Creations
When discussing "the position of local creations and handmade goods in this city," Sylvia believes it's a "very challenging" one. However, she firmly believes that local creation is an extension of the city's soul; it's not just art, but a language that reflects the emotions, values, and lifestyles of urban dwellers. In an environment dominated by mass-market brands, local designers, illustrators, and artisan food makers bring diverse, unique aesthetic voices—transforming the city from mere glass and steel into a vessel for genuine human hearts.
Treasures of Time: The Unique Charm of Red A Pendant Lamps
Among the many precious old items at Jik Sap, the most beloved by customers are the Old Stock Red A pendant lamps from the 1970s. These lamps are exquisitely designed, fully showcasing the design aesthetics of the 1970s and the popular crystal (transparent) plastic materials of that era. They are exceptionally well-preserved, and as Red A is a classic Hong Kong brand, these lamps also record the meticulousness of Hong Kong manufacturing and the design ingenuity of household items from that time.
The Gentle Touch of Detail: The Secret to Rebirth for Old Objects
The condition of many old objects is not always perfect, but Sylvia maintains an almost exacting insistence on this: she diligently cleans and simply restores every old item. Although customers may not notice these details, she hopes that when the old objects reach the customers' hands, they will be in their best possible state. This gentle attention to detail is Jik Sap's promise to the rebirth of old objects.
A Beacon of Knowledge: The Library of Old Objects
If the brand Jik Sap were to be described in one sentence, it would be "a library of old objects, inviting everyone to read them carefully." Here, every old object is a silent book, waiting for people to turn its pages and feel the history, culture, and stories contained within.
An Unforgettable Connection: The Encounter with SCANNOW
In the daily life of Jik Sap, Sylvia has met many special customers, and Wing from SCANNOW is one memorable example. Every interaction brings her new insights and revelations, strengthening her resolve to continue on this path alongside old objects.
The Meaning of Sustainability: The Continuation of Culture
Jik Sap's understanding of "sustainability" extends far beyond mere material reuse. Sylvia hopes that through the brand, they can convey the continuation of local culture, history, design, craftsmanship, and materials. This is not only a respect for the past but also a commitment to the future, allowing those unique Hong Kong memories to continue flowing through the currents of time.
