Soul Soap Studio

A Message from the founder
Jinny, the founder of Soul Soap Studio, is a crafter who stepped into the world of entrepreneurship purely out of her love for handmade soap. Her brand's journey wasn't a dramatic one; it all began with a seemingly accidental choice – a few months before the pandemic, she took a friend's advice and enrolled in an overseas handmade soap course. Little did she know then that this trip would open a whole new chapter in her life.
As the pandemic hit and work shifted to remote, Jinny rented a small studio to continue practicing soap making, as her home wasn't ideal for the extensive tools required. After several months of practice, she decided to try offering workshops, and thus, "Soul Soap Studio" naturally came into being. She often says that she never initially planned to start a business; it was simply a fortuitous timing that allowed her to embrace a change in pace and move forward with the opportunity.
If asked to describe Soul Soap Studio in three words, Jinny would choose: "Pure," "Warm," and "Healing."
"Pure" comes from her unwavering dedication to handmade soap. Unlike many studios in the market that dabble in various products, Soul Soap has consistently focused solely on soap making and teaching since its inception, striving for the utmost professionalism.
"Warm" is reflected in her meticulous attention to every piece of handmade soap and every student. Each soap is unique, imbued with the warmth and emotion of being handmade—a value that mass production cannot replicate.
As for "Healing," it's the sense of calm that comes from entering a state of flow while making soap. Jinny herself is prone to accumulating stress, and she hopes that everyone who visits her studio can find moments of relaxation through hands-on creation, allowing handmade soap to become a part of "nourishing the soul" in their daily lives.
In her entrepreneurial journey, Jinny believes the real challenge wasn't at the very beginning, but rather after some time had passed, facing a rapidly changing world, economic pressures, and even the rise of AI. These factors sometimes made her waver. But whenever she immerses herself in soap making again, she remembers her initial passion and joy, reaffirming her reason to continue.
Brand Story
Discovering the Brand's Warm Value in Everyday Life
In the daily operations, the moment that makes the owner feel "this is what I want to do" is when she sees people genuinely enjoy making soap. In that moment, she feels that what she is doing is so pure, and purity holds a significant place in her life.
Regarding the position of "local creations" or "handicrafts" in Hong Kong, the owner frankly admits, "There isn't much of a position." Many Hong Kong people still consider handmade goods to be of little value. However, she firmly believes that some things still need to be upheld by someone, and she feels that what she does is very worthwhile.
The Gentle Persistence Hidden in the Details
Soul Soap Studio has a small detail that the owner is extremely particular about, which customers might not particularly notice, but she deems absolutely indispensable – that is, the insistence on the raw materials for the soap. Perhaps some people think that any material will do, but soap is a product used directly on the body. Therefore, the owner must ensure that all materials are safe before offering them to customers, and this is precisely why she cannot lower her costs.
When inspiration runs dry, the owner chooses to clean her home. The process of organizing allows her mind to slow down and reorganize her thoughts. Sometimes, being stuck in work for too long can make one forget how to create, so timely travel or trying new things, like taking a path not usually taken, anything that brings new changes can inject new inspiration.
If she were to compare the brand to a song, a phrase, or a color, she would say that Soul Soap Studio should be a very soft song that makes you quietly shed tears. Those tears are not necessarily tears of sadness, but an expression of emotion. She hopes that soap can become a medium for healing the soul, allowing those who make it to be unknowingly healed and understood; this is the most powerful kind of gentleness.
Connecting with the Heart: Touching Encounters and Understanding
During her journey at Soul Soap Studio, one particular customer, a teenager with ALS, left a deep impression on the owner. Although he couldn't physically make the soap himself and needed assistance to complete it, the owner could still see his learning and effort to experience the joy of soap making. This experience made the owner profoundly realize the power of art; it is a method that can connect different people. And this customer also made her understand how important it is to live in the present moment and cherish its feelings.
Embracing the Self: Healing and Understanding in the Present Moment
If she could say one thing to her 10-year-old self, the owner would say: "Live a little more wildly."The owner hopes that through the Soul Soap Studio brand, everyone can feel understood. We all long to be recognized by others, but often, the person who understands us the least is ourselves, which is why we continuously accumulate pressure. She hopes that in the act of making soap, people can grasp their inner rhythm, try to be compassionate with their imperfections, and gently embrace themselves. This inner understanding and acceptance is the healing experience that Soul Soap Studio most wants to offer its customers.
